Water Garden
Within an existing garden, a round water feature with surrounding walls has been be built. This secluded area was cut out to construct a sunken pond area with running water, a small surrounding pebble garden and marginal planting to create extra atmosphere.
The structure was built to fit in with the existing Victorian house and recycled bricks and traditional paviers were especially brought in.

Over the pond, a ‘stepping stone’ walkway was constructed to allow a closer view of the various animal and plant life. The curved walls with step entrances and raised beds echoed the circular pond and small Yorkstone paved patio. The bog garden was carefully prepared with liners under the soil to sustain permanent moisture. The finished garden now shows the benefits of some thoughtful planting, of which some is indigenous with irises, rushes and harts tongue ferns, but also I have introduced more exotic plants such as arum lilies, rheums and aquatic horsetails, to add a greater visual impact The overall impression is of a quiet and restful area to visit throughout the day. Its planting and positioning creates diverse light as the sun moves round, moving from semi-shade to full sun and semi-shade once again. |
