Profile
I grew up in Norfolk from a farming background. From an agricultural beginning, I was introduced to gardening as a child and even tended a garden when studying for a degree in graphic design.
My present designs emanated from those early beginnings. After studying at Brighton I became an Art teacher and completed 25 years of successful teaching before embarking upon a garden design career.
The transition from teaching to full-time garden design was far more straightforward than anticipated. I was fortunate to secure small commissions as soon as I left the art room and learned the trade very quickly.
Over ten years of garden design, I am now enjoying a wide range of design commissions. From small urban gardens to large new housing developments I am now experiencing the fruits of a decade of hard work.
I work in a traditional manner. I draw up provisional pencil sketches based upon surveying information and the early requirements of the homeowners. My designs are finished by pen and fully detailed to the requirements of clients and landscapers.
I still teach a drawing class and a garden design course and enjoy the continuity with my previous profession. The classes are important to sustain a dialogue between art, design and garden architecture.
